JOB SPECIFICS

Purpose of the Job:

As an Independent Form F Assessor with a social work qualification and Social Work England registration, you must have post qualifying work experience of working with children in care and completing Form F assessments for prospective foster carers. Working in a fully integrated way that includes other key professionals, agencies and young people.

Key Tasks:

1. Assess and prepare prospective foster carers
2. Advise those applicants not suitable for the agency
3. Prepare Form F reports for panel
4. Present assessments to fostering panel
5. Undertake a handover visit with the allocated SSW following Panel
6. Prepare a profile regarding applicants to be used for the purposes of initial
matching.

Duties and Responsibilities
Independent Form F Assessor General Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out home study assessments with prospective carers, using the BAAF Form F format.
  • To comply with the departments supervision standards and participate in any training and development required by the department.
  • Utilise the company’s Charms reporting and recording system.
  • Agree deadlines with the agency and meet those deadlines.
  • Help prospective foster carers to contribute to their own assessments as much as possible.
  • Feed back to prospective foster carers the progress of their assessments, including any difficulties.
  • Help prospective foster carers to work out what sort of placements will  work best with them.
  • Identify when prospective foster carers are not suitable for the agency.
  • Discuss the progress of assessments with the Team Manager of DMR Fostering.
  • Produce detailed, high quality written reports for the agency.
  • Present applicants to the agency’s fostering panel.
  • To keep up to date on relevant research and developments within childcare work.
  • Adhere to the agency’s standards of confidentiality.
  • Check DBS documentation on behalf of the agency.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend organisation team meetings and acts as a supportive, enthusiastic member for the organisation.
  • To adhere to the Code of Conduct of Social Work England.
  • To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, and personal appraisal targets, as agreed by the line manager.
  • To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
  • The post holder is expected to be committed to DMR Fostering Services core values of quality, equality and empowerment and to demonstrate this commitment in the way they carry out their duties.
  • Ensure all the services within the area(s) of responsibility are provided in accordance with the DMR Fostering Services commitment to provide high quality service provision to users.
  • Ensure that duties are undertaken with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.

Skills & Qualities:

  • MA / BA in Social Work / DipSW
  • Must have a Social Work England Registration and be eligible to work in the UK
  • Minimum of 2-3years’ Social Work experience within a Children & Families setting.
  • Thorough understanding & knowledge of legislative framework pertaining to Children’s Services.
  • A thorough knowledge of the complex needs of traumatised children and how these can be met in a Fostering household.
  • Ability to manage own workload.
  • Strong assessment and referral skills.
  • Car driver with own car and clean licence.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills.
  • Exceptional Written and Verbal Communication Skills
  • Must have compassion and empathy for Service Users.
  • Previous Social Work Experience.
  • Computer Literate.
  • Self-Motivated and Team-Oriented.
